Heading To Tajikistan

Having spent a few weeks enjoying off-route parts of  Burma and Kyrgyzstan and getting our visas and logistics sorted,  it’s time to start walking again… And, man, do we have  itchy feet! We are definitely getting antsy to begin our “whatever comes next” phase in Central Asia. Rest is a good thing, but restlessness is an impatient beastie.

If all goes well today, we’ll head south out of Osh and cross into Tajikistan. Getting transportation set up for onward travel has been one of our biggest unexpected headaches, and took all our patience to get  this far, which is to say “we think we have a ride to Murghab tomorrow.”  We knew this logistics leg would involve haggling and negotiations, but after  spending a week dealing with unreliable drivers who quote astronomical prices, we are so ready to move on.

The idea is to pick up our trail where, theoretically, we would have shown up if we walked in a sort of  a straight, continuous line. Langar is the spot on the map where we hope to find ourselves.

As with every country, we have no idea how things will unfold. From everything we have heard, particularly from the many cyclists we have met who are crisscrossing various routes between Europe and Asia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are beautiful places and their people are just as lovely. That said, it’s possible that, for the next 2.5 months of our walk, we could have limited connectivity. We’ve heard mixed stories about wifi and mobile internet access in these places, and obviously we are dependent on where we can find a wall socket to plug in our devices.

Luckily, we are in 2016 and living in a hyper-connected world, so eventually we’ll find a way to post on social media or add some more blogs here.

Stay tuned, and thanks again to following us!
