Heading to Uzbekistan

Our time in Tajikistan has come to a close. It has been an amazing 45 days, and it will be hard to top what we found here. It is a place of natural beauty and kind people.

But, we walk onwards, and Uzbekistan is next on the list. We’re looking forward to what another country along the ancient Silk Road will be like.

As we say every time we cross borders, we don’t really know what to expect. We’ve heard stories about wonderful people and dreadful customs and police checkpoints. Word on the backpacker circuit, too, is that wifi is hard to find in places outside main tourist areas, and mobile internet access could be equally challenging, starting with the fact that tourists need a local person to buy and register a SIM card. We shall see.

We’ll do the best we can to post here and on our social media sites as often as we can. If you don’t hear from us for a while, assume we are safe and having a good time.

Thanks, as always, for following our footsteps.

  1. From your old NJ friend, who is still following you online – may your feet be as free of blisters as possible and stay healthy and rested and hydrated. Best to you and Lluis as your amazing journey continues. It’s a thrill just to read about it. Sending much love from afar from me and the family.

    1. Hi Dave,
Thanks for the good wishes and for following along. We’ve been lucky to avoid blisters these last few months, but staying hydrated in the desert stretches of Uzbekistan has been challenging. As with everything, it was an experience to learn from and we’ll apply those lessons to whatever steps we take from here. Much love to you and your family.
