Heading To Tajikistan

Having spent a few weeks enjoying off-route parts of  Burma and Kyrgyzstan and getting our visas and logistics sorted,  it’s time to start walking again… And, man, do we have  itchy feet! We are definitely getting antsy to begin our “whatever comes next” phase in Central Asia. Rest is a good thing, but restlessness is an impatient beastie.

Bangkok. Bagan. Bishkek?!?

Thailand. Done. Burma/Myanmar. Done. If we were following a straight line, Bangladesh would be the next country on our walk. But, it won’t be.

Up next: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

BIshkek??? Kyrgyzstan??? You correctly may be telling yourself, “Why are you going there? That’s not even marked on your map!”

Turning Questions Into Something Useful

Aquí teniu el post en Català.

With more than 14,000 questions bouncing around our heads, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

To keep our sanity in check, we have to turn the list of questions into a pragmatic guide of expected results and possible outcomes.

At times, this is tough to do. There are specific things we must patiently work through in a certain order. Many other things, however, will evolve organically as we expand our general working knowledge and tackle each aspect of the trip. Life, after all, is a big excuse to keep learning, and this trip will undoubtedly give us an education in things we never considered before now.

14,000 Kilometers, 14,000 Questions

Aquí teniu el post en Català.

Whenever we look at our Bangkok-to-Barcelona map, we inevitably scratch our heads, turning over all the things that have to happen to make this walk possible.

Lluís has started saying, “14,000 kilometers, 14,000 questions. We have as many questions as we have kilometers in front of us.” He is referring to the estimated distance we intend to cover by foot, and the dizzying number of “how, what, when, where, which and why” questions we’re piecing together.

Setting Intentions

Aquí teniu el post en Català.

When we tell people about our 2016 walk, generally the first response is “Wow!” or “That’s awesome!” or “You’re crazy.” We’ve gotten a few blank stares, some dropped jaws and even a couple of unimpressed shoulder shrugs, implying “So what? People do this all the time.”

From there, questions come in quick order. Why do we want walk a trip like this? Why Bangkok to Barcelona? And, you’re going to write a book about this, right?

Let’s set a course for this journey.
