Volem donar les gràcies a en Toni Arbonès, per haver compartit la nostra aventura amb milers d’oients que, fidels al mític programa de Catalunya Ràdio, ‘Els Viatgers de la Gran Anaconda’, han pogut venir de viatge amb nosaltres, des de Bangkok fins a Barcelona.
Al llarg d’uns anys, inclosos els de pandèmia, tots tres ens hem trobat als estudis de la ràdio (algunes vegades amb mascaretes, però sempre amb somriures i abraçades) per enregistrar una llarga entrevista inicial mentre encara estàvem en ruta i posteriorment, un cop acabada la nostra aventura, 27 capítols emesos del 2019 al 2023.
En Toni és una persona fabulosa, entranyable, educada, simpàtica i un periodista honest, curiós i acurat. Ha estat un veritable plaer compartir moltes hores amb ell, parlant del món, de les sorpreses o reptes que ens vàrem trobar, així com de les seves experiències com a gran viatger i reporter internacional que és.
Però a part de totes les qualitats personals que atresora, la seva professionalitat és impressionant. Sabem de primera mà que per fer-nos unes excel·lents entrevistes s’ha llegit desenes i desenes de pàgines publicades en aquesta web. Durant els anys de caminada, aquí hem publicat tot el que hem viscut. I hem viscut molt. En Toni ha dedicat moltíssimes hores llegint i preparant les seves acurades preguntes. Aquesta feinada després queda reflectida a l’estudi de la ràdio. Ell dirigeix els programes amb cura, preparació, delicadesa, experiència i gran professionalitat. Ens serveix en safata les preguntes per poder respondre de manera amena, concisa, entretinguda. A voltes ho fa de manera espontània i riellera, a voltes encoberta i sigilosa, com curosament traient el paper d’embolicar que deixa al descobert un bonic regal en forma de contingut interessant per captivar els oients.
És clar que surten tan bé les entrevistes. Estem parlant d’en Toni Arbonès, un excel·lent periodista.

. Ha dirigit els documentals de televisió ‘Mongòlia, el tresor de les estepes’ (2004), ‘Antics regnes del Tibet, l’enigma de Shang-Shung’ (2007) i ‘Les darreres valls tibetanes de l’Himàlaia, Shang-Shung a l’Índia’ (2009).
. I des de fa ni més ni menys que 25 anys, és el director i realitzador del mític programa de Catalunya Ràdio, ‘Els Viatgers de la Gran Anaconda’ que compta amb uns 63.000 fidels oients tant local com globalment, gràcies a l’accés al seu programa a través de internet.
Amb una persona com en Toni guiant-nos durant les entrevistes, els enregistraments van anar molt bé i els diferents capítols han estat molt ben rebuts. En diverses ocasions persones totalment desconegudes per a nosaltres ens han saludat dient, ‘Oh! Vosaltres sou (the walkers) els caminants, Jenn i Lluís de La Gran Anaconda! Us segueixo i sento per la ràdio!’ Nosaltres riem complaguts… la nostra història, la nostra aventura s’escampa pel món i creiem que inspira, com a mínim, curiositat i esperit viatger.
Nosaltres de tot cor us desitgem, a tu i a tots els oients, moltes més aventures que obrin els cors per poder ser testimonis de la bellesa i joia que sempre existeix i que tenim a tocar.
Així que, estimat Toni, moltes gràcies per aquests anys compartint Bangkok Barcelona A Peu com a programa de ràdio i per ajudar-nos a mostrar als nostres oients, també al món, l’enorme bondat que vam sortir a buscar i que hem trobat a tants llocs, amb tantes i tantes persones de bé.
Per que nosaltres vàrem estar ‘Explorant el món, cercant la bondat de la gent’, i definitivament la vàrem trobar. És aquí i allà. A tot arreu.

With hands on our hearts, we thank Toni Arbonès for sharing our walking adventure on Catalunya Ràdio’s legendary program, “Els Viatgers de la Gran Anaconda,” and his thousands of loyal listeners who traveled with us from Bangkok to Barcelona.
Over the course of several years -including pandemic years- the three of us met at the radio studio (sometimes with face masks, but always with big smiles and warm hugs) to record what amounted to an initial get-to-know-each-other interview and 27 follow-on episodes that aired from 2019 to 2023.
Toni is a fabulous, endearing, polite, friendly person and an honest, thorough and curious journalist. It has been a real pleasure to spend hours with him, talking about the ways of the world, the surprises and challenges we encountered and his experiences as an avid traveler and international news reporter.
Apart from the personal qualities we cherish, his professionalism and way of preparing and conducting an interview are equally impressive.
During our walking years, we published hundreds of posts on our website and mentioned thousands of details. Toni spent countless hours carefully reading our blog and assembling his thought-provoking questions. We had to study our own notes days before entering the studio to make sure we were prepared to share the experiences we knew his listeners would appreciate.
His prep work is reflected in the radio studio. He directs the program with great care, grace, attention, experience and enthusiasm. He delivers his questions like appetizers on a buffet tray, allowing us and his listeners to choose and savor an array of answers in a pleasant, concise and entertaining way. Sometimes his questions were spontaneous and funny, sometimes they were profound and stayed with us long after the recording, and sometimes they were slow, disguised or concealed, as if he was removing the wrapping paper to reveal a beautiful gift in the form of an interesting and meaningful conversation to captivate listeners.
As a native English speaker, I was initially worried if I would be able to convey the breadth and depth of the walk in Catalan language. Toni is patient, encouraging and with his help and Lluís’, I found all the words I needed to say when I needed to say them.
And because we hold him in such high regard, we want to mention a few more noteworthy credentials, in case you want to follow him as well.
. He has been part of Catalunya Ràdio’s news team since 1983.
. He authored three books:

With someone like Toni guiding us through the interviews, naturally the recordings went well and the episodes were well received. On several occasions, random people have greeted us with a “Oh! You’re the walkers, Jenn and Lluís from La Gran Anaconda! I follow you and hear you on the radio!” Of course, we can’t help but smile…our story continues to ripple out in the world and inspires, at the very least, wanderlust, wonder and a spirit of inquiry.
We wish you and all your listeners many more adventures that open your heart and allow you to witness the beauty and joy that is always within in reach.
So, dear Toni, thank you very much for these years of sharing Bangkok Barcelona On Foot as a radio story and helping us show our listeners, also the world, the immense kindness that we searched and we found in so many places, in so, so many good people.
