(English version below)

Un cop caminades Tailàndia, Birmània, Bangladesh, Índia, Pamir, Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran i Azerbaidjan amb aproximadament uns 9.300 quilòmetres als peus, ara ens endinsem a Geòrgia.

For those of you counting, we have walked Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh, India, Pamir, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and, now, Azerbaijan. With about 9,300 kilometers on our feet, we cross into Georgia.

Ara anem a Geòrgia.

La nostra ruta | Our Route

Our route through Azerbaijan started in Astara, at the Iranian border, and finished at the Georgian border. Some of the main cities we passed were (spelled our way, not with Azeri letters, which we can't type): Lankaran, Bilasuvar, Barda, Yevlax, Ganja, Tovuz and Agstafa.

This is what approximately 9300 kilometers looks like.

English version

Here we are at another border crossing, this time moving from Azerbaijan to Georgia.

It was a hard month walking Azerbaijan in August, when temperatures reached 44 degrees Celsius (111 Fahrenheit) for a stretch of days mid-month. It was too much for me (Jenn), and, fearing heat exhaustion and suffering from dizziness,  I had to stop walking for nearly a week. While I was recovering in a basic, clean and cool motel room in Yevlax, Lluís pressed on solo for 130 kilometers. Unfortunately, the  high heat and constant foot-breaking gravel and rolling stones on a half-constructed road did him in too. Much to his disappointment, he had to bag it and leave a small part of our route (49 kilometers) unwalked. We’re tough, but the weather is tougher.

Hopefully, cooler days will follow us into Georgia as we flip the calendar to September. Another boon will be our visa-free travel time through the region, which should reduce the daily pressure of walking a set amount of kilometers every day. Georgia generously allows most travelers to stay in the country for a full year without a visa. We won’t need a year to reach Batumi, a Black Sea town near the Turkish border, but it’s comforting to know that we can linger longer at some of the more beautiful spots we may find ourselves in.

As always, we have no idea what our connectivity will be like for the next few weeks, or how soon we’ll be back online. We have scheduled a few blogs about Azerbaijan for the beginning of September.  We’ll post on Instagram when we can.

Thanks for walking with us!
